The 15th Century Ruin Where Guests Can Enjoy A Medieval Banquet

Nestled in the rolling, evergreen, sheep-spotted hills of the Yorkshire Dales lies a captivating ruin, a roadside castle-like structure that may have piqued your interest on the way to Bolton Abbey before.

It’s hard to miss when cruising down the B6160, but it’s actually not a castle at all. In fact, it’s a former hunting lodge, complete with a chapel and Priest’s House where, to this day, you can visit for private events, weddings, and more. But while we certainly love a wedding, it’s their occasional Medieval Banquets that have caught our attention.

Taking place in a stone-walled setting in the stunningly preserved Priest’s House, guests are invited to embrace their inner Duke, Duchess, or whatever takes their fancy, before tucking into a traditional Medieval meal.

On the menu, guests can expect a feast of local produce – with no modern luxuries to be seen. Think mulled wine, vegetable broth, roast poussin, and game stew, followed by classic puddings such as cheese and apple and ginger tartlets.

For the most authentic setting possible, the beautiful space is amplified by candlelight, log fires, and period music, while guests are encouraged to wear their best Medieval get-ups for the best experience possible.

The Priest’s House sits in the shadow of Barden Tower, surrounded by flaming lanterns that guide visitors to the banquet.

The experience costs £85 per person, and includes mulled wine on arrival, wine and ale throughout the meal, and 7 courses of food.

In addition to the banquet, guests can also book out the Barden Bunk Barn which sleeps up to 20 people, continuing the old worldly experience throughout the evening. Find out more and enquire here.
